President of University of Tehran attended the Teachers’ Day ceremony at FWS; inaugurated Language and Word Studies labs

Dr. Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, President of University of Tehran, attended the Teachers’ Day ceremony at the Faculty of World Studies on Wednesday, May 03, 2017, and inaugurated Language and World Studies labs at the Faculty.

The students of the Faculty opened the ceremony by dedicating flowers to the President. Then, they each greeted Dr. Nili in different languages of the Faculty of World Studies, including German, French, Russian, English, Japanese, and Arabic.

President of University of Tehran visited the Faculty on the third day of the cultural week of Colombia in Iran. He attended the closing ceremony, drinking “Colombian coffee”, visited the photo exhibition, and was greeted by Colombian professors and officials of Colombian Embassy.

Dr. Nili Ahmadabadi had an official meeting with the members and employees of the Faculty of World Studies. Greeting the President of University of Tehran and congratulating Teachers’ Day, Dr. Ameli, Dean of the Faculty, said, “The most valuable asset in the contemporary world is social asset and teachers are the greatest bearers of this asset. The main source of development in the concept of stable development is education and learning. The mission of the Faculty of World Studies is to provide opportunities and a capacity for multicultural and multinational studies. I see a bright future for our Faculty.”

Reporting on the activities of the Faculty during the past year, Dean of the Faculty of World Studies added, “Expanding the educational personnel and recruiting seven new faculty members, organizing the executive affairs of the professors and students, authorizing the 5-year development plan of the Faculty that is currently being reviewed by the faculty members, building two language labs for Persian-speaking and non-Persian-speaking students, building World Studies lab, adding 12 prerequisite courses for new students, although there were disagreements, and establishing the Polling Agency are some of the most important accomplishments of the past year. We also developed a plan for expanding the building of the Faculty.”

Then, Dr. Nahid Pour Rostami, Education and Research Deputy of the Faculty of World Studies, talked about registration of 114 students in 13 majors, 10 scientific travels of professors to 7 countries, execution of scientific issue-oriented initiatives, and receiving permission for PhD degree of Iranian Studies from the following September and Indian, British, French, and Russian Studies from the next year. She also asked for more support for scientific initiatives.

After that, Professors of the Faculty of World Studies, Dr. Ahooi, Dr. Rahmandoost, Dr. Sami’I, Dr. Karami, Dr. Izadi, and Dr. Mo’ini, talked about the ways to improve the educational and scientific quality of the Faculty and the University.

Appreciating the meeting and the opportunity to directly talk to the professors of the Faculty, Dr. Nili highlighted the effective role of Dr. Ameli I authoring the third development plan of the University of Tehran.

President of University of Tehran mentioned the internationalization of the University as one of the institution’s three major objectives, considering the country’s needs. He mentioned that the prerequisite for success in this matter is improving the global impression of Iran and Muslims and also destroying the Iranian phobia of communicating with the world. “I believe that accomplishing this and bridging the gap between academics and government officials is the duty of professors and researchers,” he added.

Concluding with these remarks, Dr. Nili answered the professors’ questions and listened to their requests. At the end of the meeting, he offered his personal support for the Faculty of World Studies and said that through integrity and innovation, the Faculty would be successful in assuming a bigger role in the country’s future.
